Kaneda owes its true beginning to Tsuru Kaneda, the first daughter of the owner of Masusada Oil Shop, a combination of an oil shop and a money exchanger which opened in 1870. Tsuru took a husband in 1905 and together they set up their own branch shop, Masuyoshi Oil Shop, in Asakusa-bashi, Taito-ku, Tokyo. It also was a combination oil shop and money exchanger. This was the beginning of Kaneda Co. Ltd.
