1910's KANEDA CORPORATION - History - 1910's

The main shop, Masusada Oil Shop, was located at Yanagi-bashi in Taito-ku (called Asakusa Kayacho at the time). This is the area on the right-hand side immediately after you cross Asakusa-bashi Bridge on Edo Dori, facing the Kaminari-mon of Senso-ji Temple. At the time this was already one of the best shopping areas in Tokyo, with famous shops such as Yoshitoku (Hina dolls) and leading shops of Western-style tableware and umbrellas. The "New Directory of Famous Spots in Tokyo - Asakusa Area," published in 1908, lists the Masusada Oil Shop. The Masusada Oil Shop in also featured in one of the scenes in "A Novel: Tokyo Imperial University," written by one of Japan's best known authors, Seicho Matsumoto, published in 1969.

Masusada Oil Shop closed in 1917 and its branch, the Masuyoshi Oil Shop, inherited all of its business. So if Kaneda's history is counted from the establishment of Masusada Oil Shop, 2005 will be our 135th year in business. Current president, Tatsuaki Kaneda, (how he is related to Tsuru) is the fourth president in the history of Kaneda Co. Ltd.
